Home Sweet Home

It just feels good to be home. Doesn't it? This has been a record busy summer for our family. Our household goods were picked up on June 29th and were blessed to have dear friends open their doors to us while we waited to fly out. We flew out of Philadelphia on July 2nd. Our first stop was Miami for two weeks of vacation. We had a great time with family and friends. And like with all vacations, there are late nights, early mornings, sleeping on air beds, living out of luggage, and a not so normal diet. One of the highlights was celebrating our oldest daughter's graduation from High School. I expected to get emotional, and I did. It was great putting together the video for the celebration but I know I cried several times as I was making it. Where had the time gone? She was a tiny baby who would fall asleep on my chest and now she was all grown up. We left Miami exhausted, joyful, sad and excited about our next adventure in California.

We left Fort Lauderdale airport on July 16th and landed in San Diego that evening. Again God came through and we crashed at the home of some more dear friends. The keys to our apartment where given to us that week and with our youngest beginning school that up coming Monday we made the crazy decision to move in even if all our furniture and stuff hadn't yet arrived. We figured we could start getting a little settled before school started. We launched off and moved in with borrowed towels, bed sheets, some cooking utensils, three air mattresses, seven pillows and of course, our luggage.

We had no furniture for several days, it was somewhat uncomfortable, but we were home. That experience reminded me that home has nothing to do with furniture, flat screen TV's, or comfortable beds. Home has nothing to do with stuff but it has everything to do with the people you love the most. I love what Jesus says in John 14....

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."

We are glad to be home. Our stuff finally arrived. We are more comfortable now and settling in to being Californians, but this is not home. Not the home Jesus is getting ready for us. Things are still uncomfortable and unsettled. Maybe that's your life right now. Please know that God wants something better for you. That's why his son Jesus came to earth and made himself available to you. He is getting a place ready for you and I that is like noting we can compare. I am super pumped about that. But for here and now, I am glad we can say "home sweet home".
