When You Can't Explain It
Our son Isaac had a full spinal fusion eleven days ago to correct scoliosis. When we first found out he needed the surgery we educated ourselves really well as to the details of the procedure. We soon found out that it was a pretty intense surgery. As the months turned into weeks and the weeks into days I could sense an increasing level of the reality of what was soon about to go down. Yes, we thought about the degree of the surgery and how it would effect him, how he would recover and several other things. But one thing we did not do was get worried, afraid, or feel uncertain about our decision.
There was an amazing peace.
I had so much peace about his surgery and I really can't explain it. I just knew that everything was going to be ok, beyond ok. It was as if God had somehow showed me glimpses of the future but I could not remember the details, I just knew things would turn out ok. God's Holy Spirit was so actively involved in my son's surgery that I could sense his complete calm in my spirit even as I waited for my son to come out of surgery.
There were many people praying, people we didn't even know were praying. After Isaac was placed in ICU, the anesthesiologist who attended to him throughout the surgery came and met us in the waiting room. After a quick update on how well the surgery went she leaned over and told us she had woken up that morning and started praying for us. She had looked us up online and found out we were church planters as well. Wow! She then got super excited about how God was doing great things in San Diego and how encouraging it is that more churches are being planted in our city.
I don't know what you may be going through, but my hope is that God will give you peace that is so deep that it will penetrate through any fear or worry that may be weighing you down right now. His peace is so powerful, it will raise you above all the noise that life, that people and circumstances may be throwing at you. Jesus came to give you peace. A peace so wonderful that it is beyond our understanding.
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4: 6, 7 NLT
"But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid." -John 14: 26, 27 NLT
